Southern Copper posted a softer top line, with net sales down 2% to $3.1 billion as LME copper averaged $4.32 per pound (-2% YOY) and copper output slipped 1.4%. Operationally the quarter was resilient: operating cash cost fell to a record-low $0.63 per pound (-18% versus Q1) on a 15% jump in by-product credits and a 56% surge in zinc production from the ramping Buenavista zinc concentrator, and net income still rose 2% to $973 million on a 3% cut in operating costs and a 59% EBITDA margin. Management flagged real uncertainty from a possible 50% US copper tariff and a US-China trade war that could weigh on demand, while the Buenavista concentrator stays dedicated to higher-value zinc at the cost of about 10,000 tons of copper a year. Tia Maria construction advanced to 90% on access roads and platforms with first production targeted for the first half of 2027. Full-year copper guidance holds at 965,300 tons, a slight 0.9% decline versus 2024.
